How do you enrol in an online course and verify the certificate?

A step-by-step way to check an institution's authority before paying and to verify the completion certificate via e-Devlet or QR code.

Short answer

First identify the provider type: MEB public education courses are free, applied for on e-Yaygin and verified on e-Devlet; university continuing education centres issue e-signed QR certificates; platforms like Udemy give participation certificates only. After enrolling, meet the attendance and exam rules, download the document, then verify it by QR scan or e-Devlet query.

What you need

e-Devlet Gateway password or mobile/electronic signature
Turkish ID number and a valid identity document
Active e-mail address and a mobile phone that receives SMS
Debit or credit card for paid courses
Computer with camera, microphone and at least 8 Mbps internet
PDF viewer and a phone that can read QR codes

Step by step

01

Verify the provider's authority

Clarify what kind of institution runs the course: a MEB public education centre, a university continuing education centre (SEM), an MYK-authorised certification body, or a private content platform. The first three issue official documents; the fourth only issues participation certificates. A five-minute name search on YOK and MEB pages rules out a certificate that turns out to be worthless.

02

Set up your e-Devlet login

If you have no e-Devlet password, take your ID to a PTT branch; the counter transaction takes 5-10 minutes and is charged at the current PTT rate. Every official course system requires a turkiye.gov.tr login, so without this step you cannot even reach the registration screen.

03

Apply through e-Yaygin or the SEM

For MEB courses, go to e-yaygin.meb.gov.tr, open "Kursiyer Islemleri", pick your province, district and course name on the "Kurs Ara" screen, then press "Basvuru Yap". For university courses, fill in the "Kurs Kayit" or "Online Basvuru" form on the SEM site. On BTK Akademi, log in with e-Devlet from "Giris Yap" and enrol under "Egitimler".

04

Complete payment and the contract

On paid courses, read the cancellation and refund terms before ticking the "Distance Sales Contract" and "Preliminary Information Form" boxes. Download and keep the receipt or e-archive invoice; in a dispute it is the only concrete evidence you hold.

05

Meet the attendance and exam rules

In public education courses, missing more than one fifth of the total course hours cancels your certificate, and live-lesson attendance is tracked through system logs. On platforms like BTK Akademi you must finish the required video watch ratio and usually score at least 60 out of 100. Note how many exam attempts the course announcement allows.

06

Download and verify the document

When the course ends, search turkiye.gov.tr for "Kurs Bitirme Belgesi Sorgulama" and view your document under the Lifelong Learning service. For university certificates, scan the QR code in the PDF with your phone; the verification page should show your name, course hours and document number. If the QR code does not open, treat the document as suspect.

07

Use the certificate in applications

Save the PDF with a file name containing your full name and the document number, and attach the verification link in corporate applications. Public sector recruitment and ISKUR incentives usually require a MEB-approved or MYK document, so a private platform certificate is rarely enough on its own.

Tips

Check the course hours printed on the document: a 40-hour course and a 240-hour vocational course do not carry equal weight in a job application.
Most MEB public education courses are free, so search e-Yaygin before paying hundreds of lira to a reseller site offering the same content.
Test your browser's camera and microphone permissions before the first live lesson; a missed session goes straight into the absence column.
After downloading the certificate PDF, e-mail a copy to yourself as an attachment, since platforms can close old accounts.
If international accreditation is claimed, search the accrediting body's own website for the institution; a logo on a page proves nothing.

Watch out

Many online certificates sold as "state approved" or "MEB accredited" have no official standing; a document is official only if it can be queried on e-Devlet or verified through a working QR code. Digital content delivered immediately can also void the 14-day right of withdrawal, so check the institution before you pay.

Frequently asked questions

+Is an online course certificate valid for job applications?

Private platform certificates count as an extra qualification on a CV but do not satisfy formal requirements. Public recruitment and jobs needing vocational qualification ask for a MEB-approved document or an MYK vocational qualification certificate.

+I lost my certificate, can I get it again?

For MEB courses you can view and reprint it through the Kurs Bitirme Belgesi Sorgulama service on e-Devlet. For university SEM certificates you must apply to that centre's student affairs office with a written request.

+Do certificates have an expiry date?

Course completion certificates do not expire. MYK vocational qualification certificates are generally valid for five years and require reassessment at the end of that period.

+I paid but cannot access the course, what should I do?

First open a ticket with your receipt through the platform's "Support" or "Help" section. If that fails, apply to the Consumer Arbitration Committee or the Consumer Complaint service on e-Devlet with the receipt and contract.

+Can I enrol without an e-Devlet password?

Private platforms let you register with an e-mail address, but official systems such as e-Yaygin and BTK Akademi require an e-Devlet password, mobile signature or electronic signature.
