How do you compare kasko and traffic insurance in Turkey?
Separate what compulsory traffic insurance covers from what optional kasko covers, then compare quotes built on identical cover.

Short answer
Traffic insurance is mandatory and pays for damage you cause to others; kasko is optional and protects your own car. To compare, log in to SBM with e-Devlet and open "Poliçe Sorgulama" to see your current policies and no-claims tier, check your car's value on the TSB "Kasko Değer Listesi", then get quotes with identical cover from several insurers.
What you need
Step by step
Check your current policies on SBM
Log in at the Insurance Information and Monitoring Center (SBM) website or the SBM Mobil app using "e-Devlet ile Giriş". On the "Poliçe Sorgulama" screen, list the insurer and the start and end dates of every traffic and kasko policy registered to your car. Comparing without knowing what is already in force can leave you paying twice for the same cover.
Separate what each product covers
Traffic insurance, formally Compulsory Motor Third Party Liability Insurance, covers the other party's vehicle and injury damage when you are at fault and is required by law. Kasko covers damage to your own car from collision, fire or theft, limited to the cover listed in the policy, and is optional. Note this split; it is your reference when reading quotes.
Find your no-claims tier
While logged in to SBM, open the "Hasarsızlık Kademesi Sorgulama" and "Hasar Sorgulama" screens; your tier is shown separately for traffic and kasko. This tier directly drives the discount in your quotes. If you see a claim record that is not yours, note the details and report it to the insurer concerned.
Check the kasko value of the car
On the "Kasko Değer Listesi" page published by the Insurance Association of Türkiye (TSB), select brand, model, type and model year to see the reference value for your car. Kasko quotes are built on this figure, and it caps any claim payment. If your car is not listed, plan to ask each insurer how it values the vehicle.
Request quotes with identical cover
Ask for quotes through each insurer's "Teklif Al" or "Online Sigorta" section, your agent, or the "Sigorta" menu in your bank's mobile app. Use the same start date, the same set of optional covers and the same deductible choice every time. Quotes built on different assumptions cannot be placed side by side.
Line up the cover tables
Open the "Teminatlar" section of each quote and match it line by line: voluntary financial liability (İMM) on the traffic side, and replacement car, mini repair, glass breakage, key loss, earthquake and flood, towing and roadside help on the kasko side. Add the deductible and approved-garage rule to the same table; a cheap quote may be cheap because of what it leaves out.
Confirm the policy and its record
Once you accept a quote and complete payment, download the PDF copy of the policy. Then refresh the "Poliçe Sorgulama" screen on SBM and confirm the new policy appears in the system. If it does not, call the insurer's contact centre and ask them to submit the record; verifying it is on you.
Tips
Watch out
The most common mistake is treating kasko as a substitute for traffic insurance. Kasko protects your own car; compulsory traffic insurance is what covers damage you cause to others, and driving without it can lead to fines and the vehicle being taken off the road. Comparing two quotes on premium alone, when their cover is built differently, is also misleading.
Frequently asked questions
+If I have kasko, do I still need traffic insurance?
Yes. Traffic insurance is required by law and covers damage to the other party; kasko does not replace it and only covers damage to your own car.
+How can I see all my policies in one place?
Log in to the SBM website or the SBM Mobil app with e-Devlet and open "Poliçe Sorgulama"; the traffic and kasko policies registered to your car are listed with insurer and dates.
+Does my no-claims discount carry over if I switch insurers?
The tier travels with SBM records, and the new insurer prices from that data. You can also check it yourself beforehand on the "Hasarsızlık Kademesi Sorgulama" screen.
+What happens to my policies when I sell the car?
You need to apply to your insurer to transfer or cancel them. Submit the request with the notarised sale document and confirm on SBM that the change went through.
+Can I set the kasko value myself when getting a quote?
The reference is the TSB "Kasko Değer Listesi". If the car is not listed or the value is disputed, ask the insurer in writing how it arrived at its valuation.
