How do you check and pay a tax debt in Turkey?

Look up your tax debt through the Digital Tax Office or e-Devlet and settle it by card or bank account, step by step.

Ev ortamındaki masada dizüstü bilgisayar başında oturan kişi, bir elinde banka kartı; masada kimlik, telefon ve kâğıtlar var.

Short answer

Sign in at dijital.gib.gov.tr with your e-Devlet password and open the "Borçlarım" (My Debts) or debt payment section to see each item. Tick the lines you want to settle, complete either the credit/debit card or bank account payment step, then download the collection receipt. The same flow works in the GİB Mobil app and through the Revenue Administration services on the e-Devlet portal.

What you need

An e-Devlet password, or an Interactive Tax Office user code and password
Turkish ID number, or a tax identification number for company transactions
A phone or computer with an internet connection
A debit card, credit card or current bank account for payment
An active mobile line to receive the SMS confirmation code

Step by step

01

Sign in to the Digital Tax Office

Open dijital.gib.gov.tr in your browser and press the "Giriş" (Login) button at the top right. Choose either "e-Devlet ile Giriş" or "Kullanıcı Kodu, Parola". On a phone, the same login screen in the GİB Mobil app works identically, with the same screen names.

02

Open the debt inquiry screen

From the left menu pick "Borç Sorgulama ve Ödeme", then the "Borçlarım" link. The screen lists taxes registered in your name, motor vehicle tax, traffic fines and fee items along with their due dates. An empty list means you have no overdue debt on record.

03

Check each debt line one by one

Read the tax type, period and responsible tax office shown on every row. If you see an item you do not recognise, review your registration under "Bilgilerim" before paying, and if needed file a written application to the tax office from the "Talep / Bildirim" menu. Confirm the amount and any late payment charge against the figures on the official screen.

04

Select the items you will pay

Tick the checkboxes for the items you want to settle and press "Öde" (Pay). To clear part of the debt rather than all of it, tick only that line; the system carries the total of your selection to the payment screen.

05

Choose the payment method

The next screen offers "Kredi Kartı / Banka Kartı ile Ödeme", "Banka Hesabından Ödeme" and "Yabancı Kartla Ödeme". If you pick payment from a bank account, find your bank in the list of contracted banks and you are redirected to its online banking page. For card payments, enter the card details and approve the 3D Secure SMS code.

06

Download the receipt and confirm the debt cleared

When the transaction finishes, download the "Tahsilat Makbuzu" or "Ödeme Alındısı" document as a PDF and keep it. Then refresh the "Borçlarım" screen and check that the item you paid has dropped off the list. Payments made through a bank can take a short while to appear.

07

Get a no-debt certificate if you need one

If a tender, licence or grant application requires proof, use "Borcu Yoktur Yazısı" or "Vadesi Geçmiş Borç Durumunu Gösteren Belge" in the left menu. The document is issued with a barcode so institutions can verify it directly.

Tips

Instead of a card you can choose bank account payment and clear the same debt through your contracted bank's online banking; the receipt appears in the Digital Tax Office either way.
Motor vehicle tax and traffic fines can be queried by plate number, so if you recently bought a car, check whether any record belongs to the period before the transfer.
If you cannot pay in one go, look at the deferral and instalment application under the "Talep / Bildirim" menu; your tax office assesses the conditions.
On the e-Devlet portal you can search for Gelir İdaresi Başkanlığı to reach the debt payment service; the login details are the same, so no extra registration is needed.
Keep payment receipts in a folder organised by year; it is the first document requested in any objection or offset claim.

Watch out

Always check the tax type, period and tax office before paying. A payment made to the wrong period does not clear the debt and correcting it requires a separate application to the tax office. Never trust links arriving by SMS or email; always type the address yourself.

Frequently asked questions

+Can I see my tax debt without a password?

Viewing debts registered in your name requires authenticated login. If you have no password, you can collect an e-Devlet password from a PTT branch or request an Interactive Tax Office user code from your tax office.

+Can I pay someone else's debt?

Yes. Third-party payments are possible for items that can be queried by plate or ID number on the payment screen. The person paying can download the receipt even if the debt is not registered in their name.

+Do I have to visit the tax office cashier?

Generally no; the transaction can be completed online, in the mobile app or through contracted banks. In special cases or for correction requests you may be asked to visit your registered tax office.

+I paid but the debt is still listed, what should I do?

Payments made through a bank can take some time to reflect in the system. If the record still does not clear, contact your tax office with the collection receipt or file a notice from the "Talep / Bildirim" menu.

+How can I prove that I have no tax debt?

The no-debt certificate service in the Digital Tax Office issues a barcoded document. Since the requesting institution can verify it via the barcode, a wet-signed copy is usually not required.
