Short answer

Report the loss at the nearest police station or your District Civil Registry Office so the passport is flagged as lost and voided. Then book a slot through the "Pasaport Randevusu" service on e-Devlet, pay the passport fee and the booklet charge, and attend with a biometric photo and your ID card. If you are abroad, apply to the nearest Turkish Consulate General.

What you need

Turkish ID card, or a temporary document issued by the registry office
Biometric passport photo with a plain white background
e-Devlet password or ID-card login access
Loss declaration report from the police station
Receipt for the passport fee and booklet charge
For a child: both parents' ID cards and consent if required

Step by step

01

Report the loss right away

Go to the nearest police station or gendarmerie post and declare the passport lost. The officer records your statement and hands you a copy. This report is your first line of protection if someone else tries to use the document.

02

Have the passport flagged as lost

Apply to your Provincial or District Civil Registry Office and ask for the passport to be recorded as lost in the system. That voids the document so it cannot pass border control. Bringing a photocopy or the passport number speeds the process up.

03

Book an appointment on e-Devlet

At turkiye.gov.tr, search for "Pasaport Randevusu" and open the service run by the General Directorate of Civil Registration. Under "Yeni Randevu Al", pick your province, registry office and a free time slot. Confirmation also arrives by SMS.

04

Pay the fee and booklet charge

Pay the passport fee and the valuable-paper (booklet) charge through the e-Devlet payment screen, a tax office or a partner bank. Enter your ID number correctly and select the validity period you want. Bring the receipt to your appointment.

05

Attend with your documents

Arrive on time at the registry office with your ID card, biometric photo, loss report and payment receipt. Staff take your fingerprints and signature sample and confirm the delivery address. Check that your address and phone number are correct here.

06

Track the delivery

The new passport is shipped by PTT courier to the address you gave. Follow its status on the "Pasaport Başvuru Durumu" screen in e-Devlet, or with the barcode number on PTT's tracking page. If nobody is home, you can collect it from the branch.

07

Apply to a consulate if you are abroad

Report the loss to local police and get a copy of the report, then book an appointment with the nearest Consulate General via konsolosluk.gov.tr. The consulate can issue a travel document or an emergency passport so you can return home.

Tips

Keep a photo of your passport's data page on your phone and in your email archive; it makes both the loss report and consular paperwork far easier.
Valid visas disappear along with the passport, so contact each country's consulate separately about transferring a visa or reapplying.
If you have a flight coming up, check other districts and provinces on the appointment screen; different offices often release earlier slots.
Hold on to the loss declaration report even after the new passport arrives; border officers or insurers may ask for it.
When applying for a child, the child must be present at the registry office because fingerprints and the photo are taken on site.

Watch out

The most common mistake is starting a new application before reporting the loss. An unreported passport still shows as valid in the system, leaving you responsible if your identity is misused, and your new application can be put on hold. If the lost passport turns up later, do not use it: hand it in to the registry office.

Frequently asked questions

+Can I use my lost passport if I find it later?

No. Once reported lost, the passport is cancelled in the system and will not be accepted for travel. Hand the document in to your civil registry office.

+Do I have to go to the police to report the loss?

A declaration at the civil registry office can be enough to cancel the passport. Still, a police record helps if you lost it abroad or suspect theft.

+Is there an extra charge because I lost it?

You pay the standard passport fee and booklet charge for the replacement. Confirm with your registry office whether any additional charge applies in loss cases.

+I lost it abroad, how do I get home?

Apply to the nearest Turkish Consulate General. It can issue a travel document that replaces a passport, or an emergency passport, for your return trip.

+Can someone else collect the new passport for me?

You can name the person who will receive it during the application, or choose to collect the parcel from the PTT branch. Ask the office whether a power of attorney is needed.
