How do you fix ads playing on Spotify Premium?
If ads interrupt songs on the Premium plan you pay for, several steps can fix it without resetting your account.

Short answer
Sign out of the app and back in two or three times in a row; this is the fix Spotify itself recommends. If ads continue, update the app to the latest version, clear the cache, and confirm on your account page that the plan really shows as Premium. If nothing works, open a support ticket with Spotify.
What you need
Step by step
Confirm the subscription is active
Open spotify.com in a browser, log in, and look at "Manage your plan" under Account. Check that the plan reads Premium and that no payment has failed. If a declined card dropped you back to the free tier, the ads are expected behavior and the app is not the problem.
Sign out and sign back in
Tap "Log out" at the very bottom of Settings in the app, then log in again. Repeat this two or three times in a row. This is Spotify's official advice: the app resyncs your account details and picks up the server-side correction.
Update the app
Search for Spotify in the App Store or Google Play and install any pending update. On desktop, close and reopen the app so the update downloads on its own. Older builds may never receive the server-side fix.
Clear the cache
Go to Settings > Storage and tap "Clear cache". This does not delete your offline downloads, but it discards corrupted session data. If ads keep coming, uninstall the app completely and reinstall it.
Change your password and sign out everywhere
Use the "Sign out everywhere" link on your account page, then change your password. If your account is shared or has been compromised, a free session on another device can trigger ads; this forces every device to start clean.
Open a support ticket
If the problem persists, fill in the contact form at support.spotify.com or message @SpotifyCares on X. Include your device model, app version, and the time the ad played. The bug has been declared "fixed" twice and returned, so report volume is what keeps Spotify tracking it.
Tips
Watch out
Do not install third-party "ad-free Spotify" APKs or modded clients to work around the issue. When Spotify detects them it can close the account permanently, and the subscription fees you already paid are not refunded.
Frequently asked questions
+Can I get a refund because of this bug?
There is no formal refund policy for it, but you can contact support and state how long the problem lasted. Spotify sometimes credits extra free days to the account, though that is not guaranteed.
+Does signing out delete my downloaded songs?
Yes, logging out removes offline downloads from the device. You will need to download your lists again after signing back in, but your playlists themselves stay intact.
+Is this only affecting users in one country?
No, users in many countries have reported it. Spotify said two separate causes were involved and announced fixes for both.
+Is Spotify adding ads to Premium on purpose?
Spotify has announced nothing of the kind. Some users speculate a new higher tier is in the works, but that is speculation with no confirmation behind it.
